Some things are still so painful. They've invaded my dreams. I can get them out of my life, I can't get them out of my sleep. So I try to sleep less and less to avoid dreaming. Every once in a while I will sleep late to catch up.

New Jersey. The freakiest thing is how the walls of the room echo when I speak. They echo with a metallic reverberation that makes it feel inhuman and cold.

Harold Yen show. Received ADA Bassline HX cabinet and it is amazing! Also traded in the Roland Juno 106 for a MIDI controller. A valiant show of a lack of sentimentality.

Closing night for the NAATA film festival. Didn't see the film, but had a great time hanging out with other volunteers. Did a bit of schmoozing and networking and perhaps cultivated some personal relationships. Sherilyn drove me all the way to Oakland. She's really cute.

Struggling to get volunteers and things together for the Harold Yen show. Struggling to get things done for housing. Spent time on the phone with Nobuko and one of the singers in the R&B band. He wants the band to be less "business" oriented and to hang out more and be friends.

ManAlive. Antonio wants to move me to second stage after eight weeks instead of sixteen, and wants me to start facilitating class next week. Visited Nobuko after class. Volunteered for NAATA, saw "Bedeviled" and "No.1 Wicked Diva", dinner afterwards with Dong, Ed, Wendall, Karen, and Phil.

Drove to the Richmond and looked for housing on bike. No luck. Went to the beach at sunset. Visited Kevin before going home.

"Small Pleasures”, "Hair Opera", and "To Mayu" at the film festival. Still on the phone a lot. Got a piano tuner for the Harold Yen show next week. No time to look for housing. Letter from Ken, a dis.
I don't have a drinking problem. It depends on the definition of a problem. If drinking to excess is considered the problem, fine I have a problem. But I see a problem only when it becomes dysfunctional. Someone who has lost control or the ability to control. No one can even tell when I've been drinking. It doesn't affect other people. If a problem is just a statistic, then maybe I have a problem. I think a problem is defined by the effect.

"Bhaji on the Beach" at the NAATA Asian American film festival. The director, Gurinda Chada, flinging her sari in my face. Lots of time on the phone coordinating the storytelling and Harold Yen Ohana projects. Letter from Frances.

Rode back from Ohana on bike. Spent three hours with Lawrence talking bass and his new company that he wants to start. Amazing multiple scale length bass necks, using the fanned-fret system. Went on a bad run after a shot of gin. Gee, imagine that. Temps reached 70.
